Cannabis drinks are upending the beverage industry. Alcohol-free beverages are growing in popularity and alcohol giants like Constellation Brands and Molson Coors have entered the cannabis space. The result? Cannabis-infused drinks are a rapidly growing beverage segment appealing to a wide range of consumers.

In the past 16 months, Canopy Rivers has seen approximately 1,800 start-up pitches and identified over 115 cannabis beverage brands disrupting the drinks industry.

The Cannabis Beverage Start-Up Landscape

We don’t expect this number to stop growing either. Like its traditional counterpart, cannabis beverages fall into categories including soda, water, tea, shots, sports, coffee, juice, tonic, beer, wine, and spirits. Some brand themselves as social alternatives to alcohol, offering varying levels of THC. Others promote mental or physical well-being using CBD. Newer brands are marketing cannabis as an ingredient in niche products designed for specific purposes such as sleep or sports recovery.

Our cannabis beverages landscape organizes the segment into categories, providing an overview of this highly competitive market.
